In 1918, fire
severely damaged the original Sacred Heart Academy building.

1921
|
|
Sacred
Heart Junior College, offering two-year degrees, was established on
the campus in 1921. |

1924
|
|
In 1924, the
Academy became two separate entities: Sacred Heart Academy, the
high school, and Sacred Heart Model School, the grade school. Sacred
Heart Model School was named so because the student teachers from
Sacred Heart College performed their teaching practicum there –
thus, a "model school".
Two years later,
the foundation was laid for the second structure to house SHA. Construction
for the auditorium was begun at this time, as well.

Sacred Heart
Junior College became a four-year college in 1930 and was renamed
Ursuline College.

1947
|
|
In
the 1940s, additional land was needed to house students, so the congregation
purchased six additional acres known as the Barker Place on the eastern
edge of the Lexington Road campus. |

1950
|
|
By
the early 1950s, the building which housed the Model School was more
than 100 years old, and had become unsuitable. Without funding for
new construction, the sisters decided to close the school. |
