Sacred Heart Academy Student Becomes Published Poet

LOUISVILLE, KY (October 2007) - Courtney Hart, a junior at Sacred Heart Academy, beat out thousands of entrants to have her poem selected for publication in the Creative Communications anthology, A Celebration of Young Poets. A spokesperson for the publication noted “The fact that you have a student accepted makes a strong statement about your school. Being published represents talent, hard work and dedication from teachers and students.”

In addition, Dr. McAuliffe announced that Rachel Corbett and Kristen Merz were recognized for their exceptional academic promise by being named Commended Students in the 2008 National Merit Scholarship Program. These students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.4 million students who entered the 2008 competition by taking the 2006 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Blanket of Time

While the rain clouds my vision

It covers my thoughts

A dark, damp blanket

Of loss

Extinguishing the embers of my past

Tearing away our youthful years

And leaving us with nothing

We like to believe

We are invincible

But time mocks us as it steals our surroundings

As night descends upon us we realize our insignificance

And submit to the inevitable grasp of nature
