Sacred Heart Students named as Semifinalists in the 2008 National Achievement Scholarship Program and Commended Students in the 2008 National Merit Program
LOUISVILLE, KY (October 2007) - Dr. Beverly McAuliffe, principal at Sacred Heart Academy (SHA), has announced that Rachel Corbett and Alexia Williams have been named Semifinalists in the 2008 National Achievement ® Scholarship Program. The program is an academic competition for Black American high school students. Each of the semifinalists has the opportunity to continue in the competition for over 800 Achievement Scholarship awards worth over $2.5 million, to be awarded next spring.
In addition, Dr. McAuliffe announced that Rachel Corbett and Kristen Merz were recognized for their exceptional academic promise by being named Commended Students in the 2008 National Merit Scholarship Program. These students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.4 million students who entered the 2008 competition by taking the 2006 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
The National Achievement Program, conducted by National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), is a privately financed academic competition that operates without government assistance. Since it’s initiation in 1964, young men and women have received Achievement Scholarship awards of more than $88 million.
