Ursuline School for the Performing Arts & Nativity Academy offer “Drama Change-Exchange” summer camp for middle school students

LOUISVILLE, KY (May 2008) - The Ursuline School for the Performing Arts and Nativity Academy at St. Boniface are sponsoring a new, multi-cultural camp, “Drama Change-Exchange,” July 7 to 18 from 1 to 4:30 p.m., for students entering the 7th – 9th grade in the fall.

The camp fee is $50. To register, or for more information, call Ursuline School for the Performing Arts at 897-1816 or e-mail lslaughter@ucschools.com.

The two-week drama camp will alternate between Nativity Academy and Ursuline School for the Performing Arts. The first class will take place at Nativity Academy. Ursuline School for the Performing Arts is located on the Ursuline Campus at 3105 Lexington Rd., bldg. 17. Nativity Academy at St. Boniface is located at 529 E. Liberty St.

This unique camp is designed for students who have a strong interest in drama, as well as in peace and social justice issues and community service. Drama students will work together to identify an area of positive social change they want to address through scripted works, new works and improvisation. Performing for audiences in alternative and informal spaces will be part of the camp experience.

Louisville’s Kristi Papailler, who teaches drama both at Ursuline School for the Performing Arts and Nativity, is spearheading the development of the camp and will be joined on the faculty by drama instructors Robert Greene and Chethan Talwalkar. Papailler hopes the drama camp will draw “kids who care” from every area of Louisville. “Students should come with open minds and courageous hearts,” Papailler said. In exchange, she is confident they will not only sharpen their acting skills and have fun, but discover the power of their own voices to make a meaningful difference in the world.

Ursuline School for the Performing Arts (USPA), a member of Ursuline Campus Schools, sponsored by the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville, is fully-accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and provides opportunities for students of all ages who wish to pursue careers in the performing and visual arts or who simply want to enrich their lives through music, dance, drama or the visual arts. USPA programs are open to the public, complement those offered by other schools on campus, and encourage students to explore meanings, associations and interpretations of their encounters with the arts. In addition, arts integration classes taught by USPA faculty during the school day are an important component of the educational offerings of the other four Ursuline Campus schools. In July 2007, the distinguished Louisville Youth Choir became artists in residence at USPA. www.ucschools.com/uspa
