Ursuline School for the Performing Arts expands 2007 class offerings for adults to include yoga, art, piano and harp workshops
LOUISVILLE, KY (November 2006) -
The Ursuline School for the Performing Arts (USPA), a member of Ursuline Campus Schools, will offer the following new classes for adults beginning in January 2007: * * * Ursuline School for the Performing Arts (USPA), a member of Ursuline Campus Schools, sponsored by the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville, is fully-accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and provides opportunities for students of all ages who either wish to pursue careers in the performing arts or who simply want to enrich their lives through music, dance, drama, or the visual arts. USPA programs are open to the public, complement those offered by other schools on campus, and encourage students to explore meanings, associations and interpretations of their encounters with the arts. In addition, arts integration classes taught by USPA faculty during the school day are an important component of the educational offerings of the other four Ursuline Campus schools. USPA is housed in Angela Hall, with modern music and dance studios, rehearsal areas, and performance spaces. Find the USPA online at http://www.ucschools.com/uspa.
YogaFit — a four-week workshop taught by certified yoga instructor Judy Look. YogaFit improves fitness and flexibility and relieves stress. Tuesdays, beginning January 9, from 9:30 – 10:15 a.m. Cost: $48. Yoga mat required.
Visual Arts — Professional artist parent Mary Williams Newton will offer a series of six-week workshops for adults interested in drawing and painting. Newton earned her master of fine arts in painting from the University of Cincinnati and has twice received the Kentucky Art Council’s Al Smith Fellowship Grant in painting. Cost per class: $150, plus $20 material fee.
Fun with Keyboarding: learn to play the piano — Laura Meyer, chair of the USPA music department, will introduce adults to the basics and fundamentals of playing piano. In just eight sessions, class members will be able to play simple tunes and duets. Session I begins January 9; session II begins March 6. Each session is $80, plus $15 for materials.

Harp — Master teacher and harpist Rozanna Thompson will offer a monthly workshop from January through May geared toward preparing a harp ensemble to present a spring concert on the Ursuline campus. The workshop will meet on the first Monday of each month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the exception of January when the group will meet January 8. Harpists are invited to remain for lunch afterward. Cost: $150 for five sessions or $30 per session.
