Ursuline School for the Performing Arts to offer new classes in trumpet, modern dance, and visual arts

LOUISVILLE, KY (August 2006) - Registration is underway for the Ursuline School for the Performing Arts’ (USPA) fall session of drama, dance, music, and visual arts classes. In addition to music instruction for children and adults in violin and piano (traditional and Suzuki), viola, clarinet, guitar, voice, dulcimer, harp, percussion, flute, electronic keyboard and Kindermusik, private instruction in trumpet will be offered by new faculty member Julie Reese. Reese recently relocated to Louisville from Colorado where she earned her bachelor's degree in music with an emphasis on trumpet and served as the principal chair of the symphonic band at the University of Colorado.

A new addition to a full complement of dance classes for children and adults in ballet, jazz, tap, and creative movement will be two contemporary dance classes taught by Jessica Stansbury. Stansbury, who graduated from the Youth Performing Arts School and earned her BFA in Dance from Virginia Intermont College, will teach Youth Modern for 7- to 10-year-olds and Teen Modern for 10- to 16-year-olds.

Ursuline School for the Performing Arts is also in the process of developing a visual arts program under the leadership of visual artist and educator, Suzanne Dougherty, who earned her bachelor's degree in Fine Art from Stanford University and studied at the Art Students League in New York City. This fall, Dougherty will offer two visual arts classes, one for K-2 students and the other for students in grades 3-7.

USPA is located on the Ursuline Campus on Lexington Road and is housed in Angela Hall, with modern music and dance studios, rehearsal areas, and performance spaces. For additional information and for registration, please call 897-1816.
