Louisville Youth Choir offers two summer camps for students in grades 4 – 12
LOUISVILLE, KY (June 2007) -
The Louisville Youth Choir, artists-in-residence at Ursuline School for the Performing Arts, is offering two summer day camps for singers in grades 4 through 12 from July 30 to August 3 on the Ursuline Campus. * * *
Louisville Youth Choir, a nonprofit performing arts organization, was established in 1967 to create a passion for singing among young people. LYC annually draws around 100 youth from throughout the metropolitan area, and its musical repertoire includes many styles and cultures, including major classics and modern works, often performed with soloists and orchestras. Open auditions are held seasonally throughout the year, and weekly rehearsals culminate in more than five public performances annually. The Choir’s goal is to enhance musical education and performance experiences for students throughout the region and currently includes students from approximately 40 area public, private and Catholic schools. The Bella Voce Camp is for serious solo singers who will be entering grades 9 through 12 in the fall. The camp curriculum will include the study of vocal literature, vocal pedagogy, diction and theory. Students will receive two private voice lessons with principal teacher, Terri E. Foster, and students will have two master class opportunities with guest faculty. A vocal assessment is required prior to the start of camp. A singer information sheet must be submitted by July 15. The camp fee is $225.
The Summer Vocal Camp, taught by Dr. Louie L. Bailey, is intended for students entering grades 4 through 8 in the fall. This intense day camp will include daily choir rehearsals, music theory, group voice instruction, audition preparation and rhythm. No audition is required. Registration deadline is July 15. The camp fee is $205.
Both camps will be held at Ursuline School for the Performing Arts, a member of Ursuline Campus Schools, at 3105 Lexington Rd., Angela Hall, bldg. 17.

Ursuline School for the Performing Arts, a member of Ursuline Campus Schools, sponsored by the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville, is fully-accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and provides opportunities for students of all ages who wish to pursue careers in the performing arts or who simply want to enrich their lives through music, dance, drama or the visual arts. USPA programs are open to the public, complement those offered by other schools on campus, and encourage students to explore meanings, associations and interpretations of their encounters with the arts. In addition, arts integration classes taught by USPA faculty during the school day are an important component of the educational offerings of the other four Ursuline Campus schools. USPA is housed in Angela Hall, with modern music and dance studios, rehearsal areas, and performance spaces.
