Ursuline Campus Schools names Lynn Slaughter executive director of Ursuline School for the Performing Arts

LOUISVILLE, KY (June 2006) - Ursuline Campus Schools is pleased to announce that Lynn Slaughter will join Ursuline School for the Performing Arts (USPA) as its new executive director on July 1, 2006.

In making the announcement, Ursuline Campus Schools President Dr. Cynthia Crabtree said, "The performing arts are central to the education of an individual. With the addition of an arts administrator who has the experience that Ms. Slaughter does, we are positioned to expand our opportunities both within our school community and the Louisville community. We have exciting plan for our future and her passion will be a wonderful asset to our arts program."

Slaughter's professional life has been devoted to the arts as a performing artist, educator, counselor, writer, and arts advocate. In addition, she has over 20 years dance experience. Some of Slaughter's past positions include chair of the dance department of The Youth Performing Arts School, co-artistic director of Art! Art! Barking Dog Dance Company, and principal dancer for the Harbinger Dance Company in Detroit, Mich. She currently serves as a counselor for the Governor's School for the Arts.

Slaughter also has vast community experience in the arts. She served on adjudication panels for the Kentucky Foundation for Women and the Kentucky Center's Artists Showcase. In addition, Slaughter taught at the Speed Art Museum and Indiana University Southeast.

Slaughter received a bachelor's degree in sociology from Smith College and a master's degree in sociology from The University of Arizona. Slaughter also received a Master of Arts in dance from the University of Michigan where she was awarded a teaching fellowship.

Ursuline School for the Performing Arts, fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, provides opportunities for students of all ages who either wish to pursue careers in the performing arts or who simply want to enrich their lives through music, dance, drama, or visual art. USPA programs are open to the public. USPA students enjoy modern music and dance studios, rehearsal areas, and performance spaces in Angela Hall located on the 48-acre Ursuline Campus on Lexington Road. USPA is one of the five Catholic schools that comprise Ursuline Campus Schools and is sponsored by the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville.
