Members of SHA class of 2006 receive special awards

LOUISVILLE, KY (June 2006) - Dr. Beverly McAuliffe, principal of Sacred Heart Academy, has announced that the following members of the Class of 2006 were presented with special awards during the school's Honor's Day ceremony held recently:

Danielle Shover was named Miss Sacred Heart. This prestigious award recognizes a senior who represents Sacred Heart's Core Values of leadership, service, reverence and community. Miss Sacred Heart, who is nominated by faculty and staff, demonstrates in words and actions a genuine love for her school, her fellow students, the faculty, and the staff.

Lauren Weining received the St. Angela Ursuline Core Values Award for her daily and year-long commitment to the Ursuline core values of community, leadership, reverence and service. The award is given by the Ursuline Campus Schools Office of Mission Effectiveness and is named after St. Angela Merici, who founded the Company of St. Ursula.

Other special awards presented to the Class of 2006 included: The 110 Percent Award—Channing Underhill; Bunny Daugherty Unsung Hero Award—Makenna Davis and Mary Devins; Outstanding Service Award—Stephanie Hall (Senior Year Award) and Mary Kate Daly (Four-Year Award); and SHA Alumnae Association Outstanding Senior Award—Emily Teaford and Channing Underhill.

Members of the SHA Class of 2006 earned nearly 300 academic and athletic scholarship offers, in excess of $9.1 million, and have been accepted to over 135 colleges and universities across the United States. The graduates provided over 7,273 hours of service to the Louisville community this past year, for a total of 28,936 hours in four years at Sacred Heart. Of the 187 graduates, 26 have mothers who are alumna of SHA and 22 have grandmothers who are alumna.

Sacred Heart Academy (SHA), founded in 1877 by the Ursuline Sisters, is a member of Ursuline Campus Schools, and is a college preparatory secondary school for girls. Sacred Heart is the only Catholic high school in Kentucky to offer the International Baccalaureate program, and 99 percent of SHA graduates attend hundreds of colleges and universities across the country.
