Six Sacred Heart Academy athletes sign college letters of intent
LOUISVILLE, KY (April 2007) -
The following six Sacred Heart Academy seniors have signed letters of intent to play collegiate athletics: * * *
Sacred Heart Academy (SHA), founded in 1877 by the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville, is a member of Ursuline Campus Schools, and is a college preparatory secondary school for girls. Sacred Heart is the only Catholic high school in Kentucky to offer the International Baccalaureate program, and 99 percent of SHA graduates attend hundreds of colleges and universities across the country. In addition to being a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, SHA celebrates more than 70 state athletic championship titles. In 2006, SHA’s graduating class earned over $9.6 million in college scholarships. The Academy has more than 10,000 alumnae worldwide.
Emily Barnett will play tennis for Furman University. She is a three-time doubles regional champion. She was the 2004 state doubles runner-up and the 2005 State doubles semifinalist. In 2004 and 2006 Emily was named to the Kentucky High School Athletic Association All-State team. Emily earned a USTA Southern singles final ranking of 39 and Southern doubles ranking of 18.
Adrienne Bartlett will continue her tennis career at Georgetown College. She was the 2004 State doubles runner-up and was named to the All-State team. She has received the Kentucky Tennis Scholastic Achievement Award, Kentucky Tennis Association Sportsmanship Award and Kentucky High School Athletic Association Sportsmanship Award. Adrienne was also a member of two SHA state cross country teams. She is a 4.0 student and is an International Baccalaureate diploma candidate.
Elizabeth Campbell will play basketball for Holy Cross. She was a three-year starter on the varsity basketball team, and was a member of the 2004 state championship team. Elizabeth was a member of two LIT championship teams. She finished 9th as the all-time SHA scorer with 1,314 points and 6th in rebounds with 889. Elizabeth was named to both the 2007 Courier-Journal and Lexington Herald All-State teams. She was named the Most Outstanding Offensive Player in the 2007 LIT. Elizabeth’s grade point average is 3.65.
Jill Lewis will play field hockey for Wittenberg University. Jill is a two year starting defensive back and was an integral part of the 2006 State championship team. Her defensive skills earned her a spot on the state All-Tournament team. Jill plays club hockey for IFHCK and has participated at the National Festival in Florida and California. Jill grade point average is 3.27.
Paige Malone will play tennis for Spring Hill College. She has played varsity tennis for four years and was on two state championship teams. Paige has been ranked as high as 15th in the south, and was ranked in the top 10 in the state as a 14-year-old.
Jessica Storch will continue her golf career at Bellarmine University. She is a four-time qualifier for the state high school golf tournament, and Kentucky Golfer magazine has ranked Jessica in the top 25 in the state. She was named All-State Academic for four years and has a 3.7 grade point average.
