Ursuline School for the Performing Arts offers summer camps and classes for students of all ages
LOUISVILLE, KY (March 2007) -
The Ursuline School for the Performing Arts, a member of Ursuline Campus Schools, at 3105 Lexington Rd., will offer a variety of summer camps and classes for students ages 3 to adult. Camps and classes include:
Young Artists in the Making—Arts Sampler Camps: One week, themed-based camps for children ages 3-6. Students will experience music, creative movement and visual art. Call for session dates and themes. 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Fee: $125 each week.
Drama Camps: Students will study acting, singing and dancing and perform in a musical. For students in grades 2-8. Call for session dates and times. Fee: $270.
Auditioning for Success: Designed to help young men and women in grades 9 and up prepare for a major show audition. June 25-29, 7 to 9 p.m. Fee: $125.
Adventures in Art: Students in grades 2-4 and 5-7 will explore a variety of media in a week-long camp. July 2-6 and July 9-13, 1 to 4 p.m. Fee: $125.
Art for Teens: Teen artists (ages 14-17) will have the opportunity to attend up to four, week-long art camps, each focusing on a different medium. Call for session dates and art mediums. 1 to 4 p.m. Fee: $125 per session.
Introduction to Fashion Design: This introductory class is designed for students ages 12 and up. At the end of eight sessions students will have a finished garment to wear. Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 5-28, 1 to 4 p.m. Fee: $180.
Building a Portfolio in Painting: Students ages 16 to adult will paint in the studio, while building a portfolio that best showcases their work. Saturdays, June 23-July 14, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Fee: $125.
Summer Music Camp—Making Music Together: Early elementary to late intermediate age students will explore ensemble work as they experience singing together as a choir and playing hand bells, piano and rhythm/Orff instruments. June 4-8, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fee: $150
Introduction to Music Theory: Students age 12 and up will learn all of the basics to read music and understand musical notation. Thursdays, May 24-June 21 and July 5, 3 to 4:30 p.m. Fee: $85
Guitar Ensemble: Students ages 9 and up will learn how to play as an ensemble by playing differing parts simultaneously. Tuesdays, June 5-July 10, 10 to 11 a.m. Fee: $75.
Beginning Guitar: For students ages 12 and up with little or no experience playing the guitar. Tuesdays, June 5-July 10, 12 to 1 p.m. Fee: $75.
Especially for Adults: Fun with Keyboarding (adult piano), Adult Mountain/Dulcimer Classes, and Beginning Violin and Viola. All classes are Wednesdays, May 16-June 20. Call for class times. Each class is $75.
USPA offers summer classes in creative movement, ballet and modern dance. New this summer is a dance workshop, which will cover choreography, ethnic dance and musical theatre. Summer session: June 4-July 13. Call for class times. Fee: $70 to $80 per class.
USPA also offers a six-week session for private lessons in trumpet, clarinet, guitar, Suzuki and traditional violin, viola, dulcimer, harp, Suzuki and traditional piano and voice. Summer session: June 4-July 13. Fee: $150
Ursuline School for the Performing Arts (USPA), a member of Ursuline Campus Schools, sponsored by the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville, is fully-accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and provides opportunities for students of all ages who wish to pursue careers in the performing arts or who simply want to enrich their lives through music, dance, drama, or the visual arts. USPA programs are open to the public, complement those offered by other schools on campus, and encourage students to explore meanings, associations and interpretations of their encounters with the arts. In addition, arts integration classes taught by USPA faculty during the school day are an important component of the educational offerings of the other four Ursuline Campus schools. USPA is housed in Angela Hall, with modern music and dance studios, rehearsal areas and performance spaces.
