Sacred Heart Academy to host film and panel discussion on Northern Uganda atrocities

LOUISVILLE, KY (January 2007) - Sacred Heart Academy will host a viewing of the film “Invisible Children” that depicts the atrocities in Northern Uganda on Thursday, January 25 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the SHA gymnasium, bldg. 21 on the Ursuline Campus. Representatives from the Invisible Children organization will be on hand to discuss the film and teach students and others ways to become involved in global issues and exercise their civil liberties. The event is free and open to the public.

The assembly is hosted by the SHA senior Christian Ethics class. After learning of the situation in Darfur and Northern Uganda, Sacred Heart Academy students wanted to put a face on the world suffering and show people how to get involved in social justice issues. “We realized as a class that nobody knows what’s happening in Darfur or Northern Uganda,” said junior Anna Clements. “It is our moral responsibility to spread awareness to others. We are acting to spread awareness and to do something about the situation.”

Invisible Children is a volunteer organization whose goal is to show its film to as many educational and cultural groups as possible. The organization’s campaign is centered on raising public awareness and calling youth to action to seek policy change by the governments of the U.S. and Uganda.

Sacred Heart Academy, a member of Ursuline Campus Schools, is located at 3177 Lexington Rd.
